Two checks, $2000. That’s how much Capital One’s Pan Am Branch in Fairfax and the Seven Corners Branch in Falls Church, donated to the Sheriff’s Office Project Lifesaver program.
“It’s such a great program and we are happy to contribute,” said Pan Am Branch Manager Makram Hassine.
“This program helps those with Alzheimer’s and their family members,” stated Seven Corners Branch Manager Anil Bagga. “Capital One Bank is committed to helping the local community.”
Capital One Bank is no stranger in supporting community outreach events sponsored by the Sheriff’s Office. In August, Capital One Bank donated $900 to the Shop with a Sheriff Program. This event helped 25 homeless children shop for school supplies and clothes at Target in Burke. Donations from Capital One Bank are corporate funds used at the discretion of each branch manager to support worthy programs in his or her local community.
The Project Lifesaver Program can search for and rescue loved ones who wander due to Alzheimer’s, Down syndrome, autism and related diseases and disabilities. Project Lifesaver clients wear a wristband that emits a silent tracking signal. When the caregivers notify the Sheriff’s Office that a loved one is missing, a highly trained team responds to the area with state-of-the-art equipment. These efforts have drastically reduced search times to an average of 30 minutes or less. The Sheriff’s Office found its first wandering client in under eight minutes!
“We are very appreciative of Capital One’s donation. With $2,000, we will be able to purchase enough equipment to add eight additional clients,” stated Lieutenant Jason Travis, Project Lifesaver Coordinator. “Since we launched the program, we have conducted 42 rescues with a 100 percent success rate. Capital One Bank can be assured that it has donated to a great cause.”
The Sheriff’s Office currently has 40 Project Lifesaver clients with more waiting to come online. Clients must be residents of Fairfax County, Fairfax City or the Towns of Herndon or Vienna. The program is free to clients, and all funding comes from donations and sponsorships.
