The Washington County Virginia Sheriff’s Office has gone pink to support breast cancer awareness in Washington County.
Back in October, Washington County Sheriff Fred Newman decided the Sheriff’s Office needed to help bring awareness to the terrible disease of breast cancer. A new 2010 white Dodge Charger was selected to be striped with the traditional Washington County Sheriff’s Office – with one exception – the striping would be pink rather than the traditional gold. Patrol Deputy Marty Lloyd was selected to drive the cruiser, which, in addition to being used as a routine patrol vehicle, will be driven in parades and at other special events.
Statistics show that one in eight women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime, and an estimated 207,000 cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the United States in 2010.
“There are many families in Washington County and within our Sheriff’s Office that have had loved ones who have experienced breast cancer,” stated Sheriff Newman. “We wanted to do our part to heighten the awareness of this devastating disease.”
