On Saturday, March 26, thirteen Fairfax Sheriff’s deputies will trade in their handcuffs and badges to volunteer their time as “celebrity waiters” at the Red Robin Restaurant, 13056 Fair Lakes Shopping Center in Fairfax. All tips that the deputies collect from serving lunch and dinner during this national Tip-A-Cop event will benefit Special Olympics Virginia.
“The Sheriff’s Office has been a big supporter of Special Olympics Virginia for many years,” said Sheriff Stan Barry. “It’s a great way for us to give back to the community and make difference in the lives of the athletes and their families.”
In addition to Tip-A-Cop, Fairfax Sheriff’s deputies participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, the Dulles Day Plane Pull and just recently, the Polar Plunge Winter Festival, all benefiting a year-round program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Thanks to a statewide volunteer network and the support of generous partners throughout Virginia, Special Olympics can provide these programs to the athletes and their families at no cost.
