The Voice of Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies

This holiday season Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office is hosting Operation Blue Christmas.  This celebration will have three phases. The first phase took place on December 1, 2012, where we hosted Stuff A Cruiser.  Stuff a Cruiser took place at Spotsylvania Towne Center and Spotsylvania Wal-Mart.  The public was asked for contributions in the form of clothing and toys for kids. Shoppers stopped by both parked cruisers and donated cash, gloves, coats, hats, toys, food and more, filling over nine cruisers.  The generosity and outpouring from the citizens of Spotsylvania was monumental.

The second phase will consist of deputies taking 30 kids Christmas shopping on December 22nd.  Children with financial needs will be identified with the assistance of the Spotsylvania School Board.  Money has been donated by Spotsylvania Towne Center and other entities.  It will allow these children to select some much needed clothing and a few toys for their Christmas celebration.

The third phase is Winter Wonderland on the weekend of December 22nd.  The public safety community room will be decorated with trees and lights and wreaths and children will meet Santa Claus (one of our very own deputies in full attire).  More children identified with the assistance of the Spotsylvania School Board will enjoy some time at our facility where they will be matched with age and gender appropriate clothing and toys.  It is amazing what good we can all do when we work together.  The first phase alone has fostered a closeness within the community that all of us can feel. This is what the season is all about – giving and being thankful for what we have.
