Online Social Media and Criminal Investigations

Social networking sites are virtual communities. As in any large community, these sites are home to criminal organizations, fraud and violent crime. The goal of this course is to equip investigators with the tools needed to prevent,track and solve crimes in these communities. This one day (8 hour) course is designed for law enforcement supervisors, criminal investigators, criminal intelligence analysts, special agents and other investigators. Attendees with any level of familiarity with the Internet and computers, from beginning to advanced, will find this course beneficial.(In‐service course credit pending for VA law enforcement.)

Instructor: Lieutenant Chuck Cohen – An 18‐year veteran with the Indiana State Police, Lieutenant Cohen is the Commander of the Special Investigation and Criminal Intelligence Sections and also serves as the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Commander. He speaks internationally on topics ranging from the implications of online social networks in criminal investigations and criminal intelligence gathering to cyber crime, online fraud, money laundering and the investigation of skilled criminal offenders.
