Over 200 sheriffs and deputies gathered in Richmond today to meet with members of the House and Senate about the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association’s legislative efforts, including emergency custody orders and pay increases for sheriffs’ office staff. The annual Sheriffs Day at the Capitol draws sheriffs and deputies from around the Commonwealth. Association President Jack Weisenburger of Bristol led the call to action before both houses went into session for the day. We would like to thank Delegate Ben Cline (R-Rockbridge), who gave the sheriffs a briefing on the status of crucial public safety legislation currently before the General Assembly.
