A 21-member delegation of law enforcement officers from China visited the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on October 29 as part of a 20-day training tour in the United States. The tour was arranged by the Hunan Provincial Public Security Department. The officers work primarily in the areas of border patrol and immigration enforcement. Prior to arriving in the DC Metropolitan Area, the delegation visited law enforcement agencies in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Through a translator, Deputy Director-General Chunping Shen said that he appreciated the comprehensive nature of the jail tour and the professionalism of the staff. The group was particularly interested in the newest part of the jail, where inmates are housed in direct supervision units. The Fairfax ADC has 14 direct supervision units, each of which can house up to 48 inmates.

In recent years, the Sheriff’s Office has welcomed delegations from Denmark and Russia. Both groups were interested in learning more about the U.S. criminal justice system, how correctional facilities operate and what services are provided to inmates.
