Prince George County Sheriff’s Deputy Claude V. Gatewood

Claude Vernon Gatewood, 84, of Prince George, VA passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015 at Southside Regional Medical Center. Born in Indianapolis, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lloyd Douglas Gatewood; and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Robert; and two sisters, Marie and Edna.

Mr. Gatewood retired from the United States Army as a SFC after 20 years of service, and had served in the Korean Conflict and World War II. Once retiring from the Army he went to work for the Federal Bureau of Prisons and retired after 20 years of service as the Safety Manager. He then went to work for 26 years at the Prince George Sheriff’s Office where he worked until the time of his passing.

Mr. Gatewood is survived by his loving wife, Oak Soon Gatewood; two sons, Allen Gatewood and partner, David Hawks, and David Gatewood all of Chesterfield, VA; one daughter, Mary Gatewood-Frye and husband, Fred of Prince George, VA; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Douglas and husband, Drew Stagi of Reston, VA; a grandson, Devin Gatewood of Chesterfield; one great-grandson, Jack Stagi; his younger sister, Mary Larkin and husband, Ron of Lakeland, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Rd., Petersburg, VA 23803. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA.
