Wise resident donates ballistic vest for sheriff’s office K-9

Wise K9 donationWhen area resident Bob Nixon found out that the Wise County Sheriff’s Office K-9 German Shepherd – Jeckyll – did not have body armor, he felt compelled to purchase this protection for the animal. Nixon called Sheriff Ronnie Oakes and expressed his love for animals.

“I love dogs and know the importance of protecting the investment that the Sheriff’s Office has put into this animal,” Nixon told Sheriff Oakes. “I feel Jekyll is a deputy too and he is important just like the deputy who handles him,” he added.

Sheriff Oakes is appreciative of Nixon’s gesture. “It means a lot that people like Bob care about our K-9 program,” he said.

Jekyll is a five-year-old Czechoslovakian Sheperd that patrols with Sergeant Ryan Vanover. The pair have trained extensively and are certified through the International Police Work Dog Association. Jekyll is also certified in narcotic detection and patrol.

The Wise County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for Mr. Nixon’s donation and appreciates the support he gives the team.
