During the month of August, the Hampton Sheriff’s Office partnered with Hampton City Schools’ Bassette Elementary School and Hunter B. Andrews Pre-K-8 School to coordinate its first annual ‘back to school’ supply drive. Sheriff B.J. Roberts challenged his staff to ensure that a lack of school supplies would not limit Hampton students’ academic performance.
Sheriff’s deputies and staff members purchased and donated from a list of school items most needed to assist elementary and middle school students succeed during the school year. By the end of the supply drive, the total amount collected had far surpassed their goals — with over 850 school supply items ready for delivery on September 20.
Family Engagement Specialists were instrumental in coordinating the deliveries as students and administrators from each school received the large supply of school items.
