The purpose of the audit is to determine if they office is in compliance with the ‘Minimum Standards for Jails and Lockups’ set forth by the Code of Virginia. The standards address everything from inmate records to health care.
During the audit, representatives from the Department of Corrections reviewed policies and procedures, toured the entire facility, interviewed staff and inmates, and reviewed administrative files. DOC determined that the office is 100 percent compliant with the standards and indicated it should be receiving its certificate of compliance in the coming weeks. The office also received a 100 percent compliance certificate during its last audit in 2013.
Sheriff Stolle is incredibly proud of the results of this audit and is thankful to the Department of Corrections and all the deputies and civilians of the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office who work hard every day to ensure they meet and exceed these standards.
