King George children ‘Shop with a Sheriff’

K-9 Deputy Alison Nowacki and her buddy shopping

Sheriff Steve Dempsey partnered with the King George YMCA recently for the annual ‘Shop with a Sheriff’ event at a local Walmart. The YMCA selects 35 needy children who each get $100 to spend on themselves. Some of the money goes toward clothing and some toward toys. Each child partners with a sheriff’s deputy or volunteer. The King George High School cheerleaders and other local volunteers also help out with the event, and Subway provides a meal for each child.
