‘VSA Day at the Capitol’ a success
Over 125 sheriffs and deputies participated in ‘VSA Day at the Capitol’ on the first day of the 2017 General Assembly session. Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam hosted VSA members for breakfast before the legislative briefing led by Executive Director John Jones and Sheriff Gabe Morgan, VSA President.
Virginia Beach deputies congratulated their colleague and friend, Captain Rocky Holcomb, who was elected to the House of Delegates on January 10 in a special election. Delegate Holcomb was sworn in during the House session.
Other VSA members headed to the General Assembly Building to meet with their legislators. Thanks to all of those who took the time to learn about the VSA’s legislative agenda, including but not limited to: Senator Jill Vogel, Delegate Chris Stolle, Delegate Ron Villanueva, Delegate Charles Poindexter, Delegate Bill DeSteph, Senator Frank Wagner, Delegate Glenn Davis, Delegate Barry Knight.
Sheriffs and deputies also heard from Compensation Board Chair Susan Swecker, Secretary of Public Safety Brian Moran, Governor Terry McAuliffe and Attorney General Mark Herring. Following the various briefings, they were introduced by House and Senate leaders during the session.

- VSA Executive Director John Jones gave sheriffs and deputies their marching orders before heading to meet with legislators for ‘VSA Day at the Capitol’
- Thank you to Secretary of Public Safety Brian Moran and Deputy Secretary Victoria Cochran for speaking to sheriffs and deputies about the VSA’s legislative agenda during ‘VSA Day at the Capitol’
- Senator Jill Vogel welcomed sheriffs and deputies from Fauquier and Campbell Counties.
- VSA President and Sheriff Gabe Morgan introduced Governor McAuliffe to the more than 100 sheriffs and deputies in town for ‘VSA Day at the Capitol’
- Attorney General Mark Herring met with sheriffs and deputies to discuss the VSA’s legislative agenda.
