Chesterfield County deputies teamed up with area law enforcement officers for the ‘Bike for the Blue’ ride on May 13. Seven bike riders and multiple support staff and vehicles departed the state capital for the 110-mile bike ride to the nation’s capital. This annual event remembers law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty across America, and this year marked the 22nd year riders from Chesterfield County have participated. Deputies and staff spent the evening at the 29th Annual Candlelight Vigil.

On May 15, the Chesterfield delegation attended the 36th Annual National Peace Officers Memorial Service held on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building. The keynote speaker was President Donald Trump. The service paid tribute to those law enforcement officers who lost their lives in 2016 and recognized their families — many who were in attendance.

The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office would like to honor all law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice protecting their communities. During National Police Week, the front of the Chesterfield courthouse was illuminated nightly with blue lighting. In addition, a banner was displayed along the roadway. The sheriff’s office would like to express a special thanks to Rick Halder at Vital Signs of Chester, Inc. (804-748-3251) for his donation of labor and materials for the banner project.
