Sheriff Bill Overton recently recognized three Franklin County residents as recipients of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute’s college scholarship program. The VSI awarded 78 scholarships across Virginia this year totaling $77,000. The receiving student must attend a Virginia college or university and pursue a college degree in criminal justice. All three of Franklin County’s recipients — Ian T. Hamrick (Ferrum College), Tatiyanna Harper (Virginia State University) and Kyle Grindstaff (Radford University) — were awarded $1000 to help cover tuition expenses. Sheriff Bill Overton presented each with their award certificate and stated to the group how proud he was of each student. Overton added, “It is an honor to present these awards and we are sure each of you will make a positive impact as you pursue a career in law enforcement.”
