The Voice of Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies
There has been a lot of conversation in the Roanoke area communities about drug overdoses and the abuse of prescription medications. The Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office has a drug take back box which provides citizens a secure place to dispose of medications that are no longer needed. Attached are a few photos from January 19 at which time we emptied the box. The large amount of medications weighed 79.2 pounds. The drug box was designed and made by students at Arnold Burton Vocational School and has been in use since the early summer of 2016. Since then we have taken in a total of 540.6 pounds of medications that were no longer needed. That would be almost seven times what you are seeing in the photos.
Sheriff Orange has made this community service a top priority. He supports the many endeavors of other organizations to minimize or stop all drug abuse
