Honoring Deputy Archer Thomas Belcher
Today (February 17th) marks the anniversary of the death of Deputy Archer Thomas Belcher who died on February 17, 1912. Deputy Belcher passed away as a result of injuries he sustained on January 22, 1912 when he was attacked by two inmates he was guarding on a work crew. He was 47 years old at the time of his death leaving his wife, Mary Dance Belcher, and their ten children to mourn his passing. Flowers were placed in front of the historic jail on Friday, February 16, 2018 in remembrance of Deputy Belcher and the ultimate sacrifice he made serving Chesterfield County.
