HANOVER, Va. – The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting its 30th session of the Citizens Police Academy. The Citizens Police Academy will take place from September 11, 2018 through November 13, 2018. The academy will be held every Tuesday between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office. There will be no cost for the participants.

The program is available to Hanover residents, business owners, or employees who are at least 21 years of age. Applicants must be willing to submit to a background check. Class size is limited and applicants will be selected on a first-come, first-accepted basis.

This academy is designed to give participants an inside look into law enforcement with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office. The training will consist of a variety of law enforcement topics as well as pro-active crime prevention presentations, which will give citizens a better understanding of what members of the Sheriff’s Office do on a daily basis. The goal of the academy is to foster productive relationships with citizens in our community and for them to develop a better understanding of law enforcement.
