The Hampton Sheriff’s Office sponsored its 14th Annual Hampton Senior Picnic in May to celebrate Older Americans month. The event was initiated by Hampton Sheriff, B. J. Roberts to recognize and show his appreciation to the older population of Hampton. Due to inclement weather the event was moved indoors for the first time. Queen Street Baptist Church of Hampton graciously offered the use of the Queen Street North Worship Center to host the huge event. Nearly 500 senior citizens emerged on the beautiful and spacious edifice for an afternoon of fellowship, food and song. Hampton Triad and Hampton Parks and Recreation are co-sponsors of the event. The picnic was free with a complimentary lunch and information bags filled with senior safety items. Over a dozen city leaders and elected officials joined Sheriff Roberts, Deputies and staff, Firefighters, Police Officers and Triad members as they served lunch to the large crowd.
