On September 8th, the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office held the “Freedom Run” honoring the lives of those killed in the 9/11 Terror Attacks and the first-responders who rushed in to help them. There was a 9.11-mile run, a 5k, and a Patriot’s Charge (kids’ run), in which more than 250 runners participated at the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail.  Proceeds of the Freedom Run benefit the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office’s 501(c)(3) charity, Charities Inc., which helps people in need throughout Chesapeake and also benefits the Fisher House, which provides a “home away from home” for families or patients receiving care at a major military hospital or VA medical center.

Congratulations to the first place finishers:
9.11-mile 1st place male finisher: Daniel Smith from Chesapeake
9.11-mile 1st place female finisher: Fabiana Perlingeiro from Virginia Beach
5k 1st place male finisher: Alex Perez from Virginia Beach
5k 1st place female finisher: Meghan Batteau from Chesapeake
