The Voice of Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies

March 5, 2019

Just a note to update everyone with the latest in the VSA.

John and his staff have done a great job keeping us informed on the legislative activities. I wanted to point out a few things of interest.

First, it has been my pleasure this year to spend time with John and his staff in Richmond. John has introduced me to a number of people that play a huge roll in the legislative process, and I was able to watch and hear John at work for the Virginia Sheriffs and their Deputies. I can assure you he exceeds expectations with the long days, as he testifies before committees and speaks with legislators from early morning to late at night.

I want to say thank you to Sheriff Ken Stolle for the loaning of Lt. Billy Gilbert. Lt. Gilbert worked daily alongside John and his staff, visiting legislators and attending committee meetings. This allowed the VSA to be represented in more than one committee meeting at a time during the session.

Now, a big thank you to our Legislative Committee for their work in reviewing, voting and commenting on 121 bills. Your comments and votes go a long way in the decisions made in the session. I witnessed Delegates and Senators alike asking what VSA’s position was on a bill.

For all those who attended the session this year, I hope you had an enjoyable visit, and thank you for taking the time out to attend.

The Dispatch has given a great overview of our accomplishments this year, and we are thankful for all that was accomplished.

May God continue to bless our work and keep us all safe.

Respectfully yours,

Steve F. Dempsey
