Virginia Sheriffs’ Association
The Voice of Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies

The Virginia Sheriffs’ Association (VSA) applauds the budget conferees on a job well done. Not only does the budget address much needed public safety pay raises for deputy sheriffs, it addresses the marijuana legalization issue. These pay raises will undoubtedly assist with the excessive turnover and reward our front line law enforcement officers for the demanding job they face each and every day.

The VSA has historically urged caution on the movement to legalize marijuana. Other states have had questionable success and highway fatalities have increased in states where marijuana was legalized. This amendment addresses a real public safety concern.

The VSA is pleased that the General Assembly has accepted the conference report on HB 30.
