The Voice of Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies

With much sadness, the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association joins the Rockbridge County and City of Lexington Sheriff’s Office in sharing the news of the death of Deputy Charles “Chuckie” T. Burgdorf. At age 56 he lost a hard fought battle against cancer and passed away Wednesday morning. Chuckie began his career with the Lexington Police Department in 1988 and joined the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office in 1992. He was a well-respected patrol deputy, Dare officer, and School Resource Deputy. He retired in 2018 and in 2020 he rejoined the office in a part-time position as a deputy where he served until his passing. He will always be remembered for his calmness, compassion and never-ending smile. Chuckie’s brother Steve Burgdorf still serves a deputy with this agency and his son Taber Burgdorf is a deputy with Augusta County Sheriff’s Office. We mourn the loss of our brother and friend. Information on arrangements will follow. Please keep his family and fellow deputies in your thoughts.
