Newport News Sheriff’s Office deputies worked hard and had a lot of fun raising money for Special Olympics Virginia on August 28. They had a friendly competition with the Newport News Police Department to see which agency’s vehicle would be covered with the most donation cards. Many deputies of the NNSO Civil Enforcement division made time in their day to encourage patrons to give what they could. When the event was over, nearly $1,800.00 had been raised. 100% of the funds will go towards helping athletes in their community.
Law enforcement agencies around the state took part in the “Wawa with the Law”, the annual Cover the Cruiser fundraiser during the last week of August. Special Olympics Virginia is dedicated to providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for persons with intellectual disabilities.
