Congratulations to each of the nine inmate trusties who recently took and PASSED the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office’s first-ever Servsafe Food Handler and Management Certification safety course at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center. Sheriff Rocky Holcomb handed out certificates Tuesday and congratulated the trusties on a job well-done. He also told them how important the certificate can be when they are released from the jail.

The one-day class was taught last month by Inmate Services Director Steve Wilke. Outside of the one-day course, the inmate trusties learn professional skills in the inmate kitchen that can translate into paying jobs in restaurants in communities everywhere and anywhere. We are excited for the opportunities and possibilities for the trusties upon their release!

“The A Team,” as the first class dubbed themselves, are: Michael Ellis, Keyon Bell, Daniel Bennett, John Hopkins, Andrew Landsperger. Kimyon Lockhart, Scott Mayotte and Deric Rose. (The ninth inmate who passed the course has been transferred to Chesapeake.)
