The Charles City County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the formation of a new Drone Operations Team, which will serve in future as a Joint Operations Group in collaboration with the Charles City County Sheriff’s Office and the Charles City County Volunteer Fire/EMS. This is an exciting step forward for our community and our agencies, and we are proud of the dedicated individuals who have stepped up to take on these new roles.

Our primary initial mission for the Drone Operations Team will be Search and Rescue (SAR), enhancing our ability to respond quickly and efficiently to emergencies, locate missing persons, and provide critical support during life-saving operations. As our program grows, we will expand its use into a wide array of operational areas, including disaster response, crime scene analysis, and public safety efforts. This is just the beginning of a program that will undoubtedly have a significant and lasting impact on our community.

Please join us in congratulating the following Deputies who have been selected for this important assignment and will embark on their new billets within the Drone Operations Team:

  • Deputy J. Patteson- sUAS Team Commander
  • Deputy J. Edgerton- sUAS Assistant Team Commander  
  • Cpl. T. Mayo- Unmanned Aircraft Pilot/UAS Flight Crewmember
  • Investigator Z. Anwari- Unmanned Aircraft Pilot/UAS Flight Crewmember

Each member has demonstrated the commitment, and dedication necessary for this challenging and rewarding role. We have full confidence that they will serve our community with distinction as they undertake this vital work.
