Chesterfield County recently unveiled a new plaque commemorating every sheriff who has served the county since 1749. The plaque, now installed in the historic 1917 courthouse, features the names and years of service of each Chesterfield County Sheriff, recognizing their dedication to public safety and community service throughout the centuries.
The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors led the initiative as a tribute to the long-standing legacy of the Sheriff’s Office. During the unveiling ceremony, current and former sheriffs, their family members, community leaders, and residents gathered to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Among those in attendance were former Sheriff Clarence G. Williams Jr. and Dennis Proffitt Jr., son of former Sheriff Dennis S. Proffitt.
“This plaque stands as a tribute to the past, a recognition of the present, and an inspiration for the future of law enforcement in our county,” the Sheriff’s Office shared. “We are grateful for the support of our community, local leaders, and law enforcement family who continue to uphold the values of justice and service.”
The Virginia Sheriffs’ Association congratulates the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office on this meaningful recognition of their history and continued commitment to excellence in law enforcement.
