The Voice of Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office recently began using a new tool to help enhance the safety and well-being of residents through the Wellness and Security Reassurance Program, offered via the Sheriff Alert System.

This automated phone call service is designed to check in daily with elderly individuals or others who may benefit from regular wellness checks. Participants in the program receive a daily call and are prompted to press “1” to confirm they are okay or “3” if they need assistance. If no response is received, the system attempts to call back three more times within a short time frame. If there is still no answer, the Sheriff’s Office dispatch center is notified, and a deputy is sent to conduct a welfare check.

This free program is available to all citizens of Scott County and has already received positive feedback from participants. While the Scott County Sheriff’s Office does not own or operate the service directly, they have had great success using it and encourage other jurisdictions to explore it as well.

More information about the program is available on the Scott County Sheriff’s Office website.
