At approximately 5 PM on the evening of April 22, 2025, the Halifax County E911 center received a call regarding a missing five-year-old in the Omega area.
The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office was promptly notified, and responded to the scene with canine units. Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources and the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office were notified and responded with additional canine units. Authorities arrived on the scene shortly, and scanned the immediate area. Canine units were deployed, and within 30 minutes after the canine units began the search, he was successfully located in a heavily wooded area by Corporal Jeremy Garber, and canine Gus.
The five-year-old was examined by Halifax County Rescue Squad and appeared to be fine.

Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Midway Volunteer Fire Department, Halifax County Rescue Squad, and Halifax County Office of Emergency Services.
Additionally, we would like to give a special thank you to the Halifax County E-911 Dispatchers, who though are rarely seen, are always heard and tirelessly coordinate efforts behind the scenes. This incident exemplifies the dedication and teamwork of our community’s first responders.
