On May 15, 2025, a ceremony was held at the King George County Sheriff’s Office dedicating the Rt. 301 bridge over Machodoc Creek to KGSO Deputy Craig Lamont Brooks, who died in the line of duty on May 15, 1998.
Guest speakers including Reverend Dr. Larry Finch, Sr., Senator Richard Stuart, and Delegate Hillary Pugh-Kent addressed a crowded room filled with the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Brooks. Speakers shared heartfelt memories of this “gentle giant,” remembering his loving nature and sense of humor, which brought tears to the eyes of many in attendance.
During the ceremony, Sheriff Chris Giles remarked, “Let this bridge serve as a daily reminder of the cost of service, the value of life, and the strength of one who gave everything for the good of others. May every person who sees this dedication remember the name, the story, and the example of Deputy Brooks.”
