Recently, City of Petersburg Sheriff Vanessa R. Crawford, a former recipient of the prestigious Sojourner Truth Award, served as the guest speaker at the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc. (NANBPWC) for its 56th Annual Founders Day program for Petersburg and vicinity. The NANBPWC, established in 1935, is a national non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the interests of women business owners and professionals.

During her address, Sheriff Crawford embraced the program’s theme, “Putting Our Boots on the Ground,” emphasizing the need for commitment and action in serving our communities. This theme highlighted the importance of honoring seniors who have paved the way for us and supporting the youth who represent our future.

In her powerful speech, Sheriff Crawford drew inspiration from Sojourner Truth, a courageous advocate for justice and equity. She reminded attendees of Truth’s legacy and how it encourages all of us to continue serving with purpose and resolve.

The NANBPWC, Inc. empowers women through leadership opportunities, volunteerism, and educational initiatives, fostering economic independence among youth and young adults. The organization is committed to enhancing the lives of women and promoting community engagement. Sheriff Crawford’s inspiring words reinforced the significant impact that committed individuals can have on their communities. Together, we can all put our boots on the ground and make a difference.
