The Voice of Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies

The Virginia Sheriffs’ Association is saddened to share news of the passing of retired Powhatan County Sheriff Lynn T. Woodcock. Sheriff Woodcock served as Sheriff from 1996 to 2008 and spent much of his career in dedicated service to the Powhatan community.

Current Powhatan County Sheriff Brad Nunnally, who was hired by Sheriff Woodcock, reflected, “Every deputy has his Sheriff – mine was Lynn Woodcock. I will miss his wisdom, values, and advice. We have truly lost an icon.”

In addition to his service to the citizens of Powhatan County, he was an active member of both the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association (VSA) and the Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute (VSI), serving as President of VSI from 2005 to 2007.

“Professionalism and integrity defined Sheriff Woodcock, and working with him was always a pleasure,” said John W. Jones, Executive Director of the VSA.

Please keep Sheriff Woodcock’s family and his former colleagues at the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office in your thoughts and prayers.
