On Monday, August 4th, more than 25 King George County Sheriff’s Office employees, most in uniform, proudly participated in the YMCA Bright Beginnings program at our local Walmart, helping local children prepare for the upcoming school year with the supplies they need to succeed. While our employees gathered at the entrance, Major Patrick Weston was alerted by a store loss prevention employee of a larceny in progress. The male suspect was attempting to steal $1,014 worth of merchandise and exit the store by the side exit.
Upon confronting the suspect, he resisted arrest. Major Weston quickly gained control of the situation, taking the suspect to the ground and safely affecting an arrest. The suspect, identified as Ricky William Hardman of King George, was charged with Felony Grand Larceny.
Many KGSO deputies assisted in this arrest which then allowed us to focus our attention back on Bright Beginnings and the children. This incident is a reminder of the dedication KGSO personnel bring to protecting our community and upholding the law every day.
Hardman was committed to the Rappahannock Regional Jail. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
