New Kent County Sheriff Lee Bailey has been awarded the prestigious Janet M. Brooking Award from DRIVE SMART Virginia for his outstanding contributions to traffic safety.

Sheriff Bailey is known for his hands-on approach, from checking child safety seats and enforcing handheld phone laws to leading efforts against dangerous speeding. He played a key role in a national distracted driving pilot program with DRIVE SMART Virginia and was even featured on a local billboard promoting safe driving.
His focus on protecting families is evident in his enforcement around school zones. After New Kent implemented photo-speed enforcement under his leadership, speeding violations dropped by 95%, reflecting his unwavering commitment to community safety.
