In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Petersburg Sheriff’s Office has illuminated the historic Husting Court Building in purple — the national color symbolizing hope, courage, and a commitment to ending domestic violence.
“Domestic violence impacts families in every community, and it’s our duty to stand with survivors while raising awareness about prevention,” said Sheriff Vanessa R. Crawford. “By lighting the Husting Court Building in purple, we’re sending a clear message — that victims are not alone, and help is available.”
The Petersburg Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone experiencing or witnessing domestic violence to reach out for assistance. If you or someone you know is in danger: Call 911 immediately. Contact the Petersburg Sheriff’s Office at (804) 733-2369 or the Petersburg Bureau of Police at (804) 732-4222. For confidential support, reach the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or text START to 88788.
Throughout October, the Petersburg Sheriff’s Office continued its commitment to promoting education, prevention, and partnerships with local organizations that provide resources for victims and their families.
