Sheriff Warren and the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office are unveiling a new initiative to help make our roadways safer. New school speed zone cameras are being utilized to encourage drivers to slow down!

Sheriff Warren sets the record straight that, “school zone cameras aren’t about generating revenue, they’re about protecting children and parents where safety matters most!“

Leading up to this point, several schools were selected to have speed enforcement cameras installed for several days, just for data gathering as it relates to speeding violations in these zones. This allowed GCSO to see how extensive the problem really was.  As a result, it was abundantly clear that this issue was major public safety concern, and something needed to be done! Having a deputy at each school monitoring these zones and stopping violators every morning and afternoon isn’t practical.

Starting Monday, November 17, 2025, school zone speed cameras, which have been strategically placed throughout the county in various school zones, will be in full operation. A plan is already in place to have these camera systems active at every school zone in this county. These cameras will begin issuing warnings to drivers traveling at least 10mph or more over the limit during posted (flashing) school zone hours. This warning period will last until January 4, 2026. Violations will be enforced on January 5, 2026.

All offenses are reviewed by the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office prior to approval of them being a violation. If deemed a violation, the violator will incur a fine of $100. It should be noted that no points will be assessed for these violations, and they will not appear on a person’s driving record. The Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office urges drivers to watch their speed and help in its continued efforts to keep school zones safe for our students, parents, bus drivers, and faculty.
