The Voice of Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies

The Virginia Sheriffs’ Association (VSA) extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Corrections Officer Jeremy Lewis Hall, who was killed Monday morning, November 17, 2025, in an attack by an inmate at River North Correctional Center.

Our thoughts are also with the two officers who were injured in the same incident. Both were treated at a local hospital and have now been released. We wish them a full and steady recovery.

“This is a tragic loss for Virginia’s public safety family,” said John W. Jones, VSA Executive Director. “Correctional officers work in a dangerous environment every day. Their service is essential to maintaining safe and secure facilities across the Commonwealth. We extend our support to Officer Hall’s loved ones and to everyone at River North during this difficult time.”

Corrections is an integral part of public safety in Virginia. The work of correctional officers is critical to the safety of secure facilities, staff, inmates, and the communities we all serve. Today’s events are a reminder of the risks these officers face in the line of duty.

The VSA stands with the Virginia Department of Corrections and the River North Correctional Center as they navigate this loss.
