On Feb 28, 2026, at approximately 12:50 a.m., a King George County Sheriff’s Deputy was running stationary radar when a vehicle entered the radar at a high rate of speed. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle when it accelerated in an attempt to flee. The deputy gave chase as the vehicle fled into Stafford County at speeds well over 100mph. The fleeing vehicle made a “U” turn and fled back into King George County at a high rate of speed. While fleeing from the deputy, the vehicle ran through several traffic signals and signs, along with passing other vehicles on double yellow lines. The fleeing vehicle finally stopped, and the driver fled on foot.
King George Sheriff’s Office requested a K-9 from Stafford Sheriff’s Office to assist with tracking the suspect. The King George Sheriff’s Office drone team was activated and responded to the scene. Stafford Sheriff’s Office K-9 team started the track and was notified by the drone team that they were within about 70 yards of the suspect in the woods. Verbal commands were given and the suspect surrendered without incident. The suspect was identified as James Womack of King George County. Womack also had warrants in Stafford County and Westmoreland County.
Womack was charged in King George County with Felony Eluding, Reckless Driving by speed, Reckless Driving General Rule along with several other traffic charges. Womack was held on no bond.
The safe capture of Womack is a testament to the teamwork between Stafford County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit and King George County Sheriff’s Office Drone team.
