Lieutenant M. Lyons, of the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office, has been elected to serve a three-year term as a member of the 2026–2027 American Jail Association (AJA) Board of Directors.
Lieutenant Lyons is a seasoned corrections professional with 19 years of dedicated service and a distinguished record of leadership, training, and operational excellence. She holds a Master of Business Administration from Liberty University and a bachelor’s degree in business management from Coppin State University, providing a strong foundation in organizational leadership and administrative strategy. Throughout her career, Lieutenant Lyons has served in key leadership roles including Shift Commander, Zone Supervisor, and Assistant Training Coordinator. In these roles, she developed extensive experience in jail operations, staff development, and policy implementation. In January 2026, she transitioned from her role as Inmate Records Supervisor to Training Coordinator, where she continues to advance a culture of training excellence and foster high-performing teams.
Lieutenant Lyons is a certified General Instructor, Control Tactics Instructor, and Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (E.V.O.C.) Instructor, as well as a certified Life Coach. She was elected Class President of the National Jail Leadership Command Academy (NJLCA) Class #52 and has successfully completed the FBI-LEEDA Leadership Trilogy and the Arlington County Leadership Cohort. Lieutenant Lyons will be formally sworn in during the American Jail Association’s 45th Annual Conference & Jail Expo on Sunday, May 17, at the Opening Luncheon and Business Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her election reflects both her professional accomplishments and her ongoing commitment to advancing excellence in the corrections field.
