On May 4, 2026, Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Palmer was recognized by the Roanoke City Police Department (RCP) for his actions on April 24, 2026. Lieutenant Palmer was present as an RCP officer began to lose consciousness due to a suspected narcotics exposure. The lieutenant took steps to stabilize the officer while remaining calm, focused, and attentive while providing critical care.
Per Chief Booth, this recognition is given to commend Lieutenant Palmer for his decisive actions, situational awareness, and the compassion demonstrated towards a fellow law enforcement professional.
