The Virginia Sheriffs’ Association is deeply saddened by a shooting involving members of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. Two deputies were shot while conducting a welfare check, one fatally.
Carroll County Sheriff Kevin Kemp has released a statement regarding the loss of Deputy Logan Utt, who was killed in the line of duty on May 29, 2026.

Funeral arrangements have been announced for Deputy Utt. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church in Mount Airy, North Carolina. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June 5, at 2:00 p.m., also at Temple Baptist Church.
