The Virginia Sheriffs’ Association (VSA) joins the Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office in mourning the line-of-duty death of Deputy Burlie W. Duvall III, who was killed on Aug. 6 while assisting at the scene of a motor vehicle accident.
Deputy Duvall dedicated his life to protecting his community and made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others. He is survived by his wife and three children.
Appomattox County Sheriff Robert Richardson has released a statement regarding the loss of Deputy Duvall.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 12:00 pm at Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, VA, with Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Jonathan A. Watson officiating.
A funeral service will be held Monday, August 17, 2026, at 12:00 pm at Brinsfield Funeral Home in Charlotte Hall, MD. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Queen of Peace Cemetery in Mechanicsville, MD. A repass will take place at Mechanicsville Fire Department in Mechanicsville, MD, following the burial.
