During the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association’s (VSA) Annual Meeting held on September 16, 2026, Governor Abigail Spanberger officiated the swearing-in ceremony for VSA’s newly elected officers. The event marked the beginning of a new term for VSA leadership, with Smyth County Sheriff B. C. “Chip” Shuler assuming the position of President.
“It is an extraordinary honor to serve as president of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association and represent the sheriffs and deputies who work each day to protect and serve communities across our Commonwealth,” said Sheriff Shuler. “I look forward to building on the Association’s strong foundation, strengthening the collective voice of Virginia’s sheriffs and working together to address the challenges facing law enforcement. By supporting our people, sharing resources and standing united in our commitment to public safety, we can continue providing the professional service Virginians expect and deserve.”
“Sheriff Shuler brings more than four decades of law enforcement experience and a proven commitment to the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association,” said John Jones, Executive Director of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association. “He and the newly elected Board represent experienced, dedicated leadership from communities across the Commonwealth. We look forward to working together to strengthen the Office of Sheriff, advocate for the needs of Virginia’s sheriffs and deputies, and continue providing valuable training, resources and support to our members.”
