{"id":12314,"date":"2020-05-30T00:35:12","date_gmt":"2020-05-30T00:35:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vasheriff.org\/?p=12314"},"modified":"2020-05-30T00:35:12","modified_gmt":"2020-05-30T00:35:12","slug":"virginia-sheriffs-association-statement-on-death-of-george-floyd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vasheriff.org\/2020\/05\/30\/virginia-sheriffs-association-statement-on-death-of-george-floyd\/","title":{"rendered":"Virginia Sheriffs&#8217; Association Statement on Death of George Floyd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Richmond, VA<\/strong> &#8211; On behalf of the members of the Virginia Sheriffs&#8217; Association, I want to address the situation unfolding in Minneapolis.\u00a0 The acts committed by the Minneapolis police officer that resulted in the death of George Floyd appear nothing short of criminal conduct.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the immediate actions of prosecution of those responsible\u00a0for this act, there should also be an\u00a0accountability of the culture that lead to it.\u00a0 It is our hope that both of these issues can be swiftly addressed for the family of Mr. Floyd, the community of Minneapolis, and the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Sheriffs in the Commonwealth of Virginia are Constitutional Officers, who answer directly to the people.
