Franklin County Sheriff’s Office announces their Spring 2018 DEA Prescription Drug Take Back. On Saturday, April 28th from 10AM – 2PM ,FCSO will be stationed at TWO locations. Westlake Sheriff’s Office Sub-Station and Ferrum College Police Department. Also, Rocky Mount Town Police will be at the local Walmart. The purpose of these prescription drug take back events is to remove unused and outdated medications from homes and offer a safe disposal. Officers will be at all locations and will offer a take home disposal kit to safely neutralize medications after our event. Sheriff Bill Overton stated, “Old prescription medications in the home need to be properly disposed and our partnership with the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) attempts to educate the public on the hazards of improper discarding. We do not want to put prescription medications in the trash or flushed into our septic systems as this could harm our water supplies. These drug take back events allow our residents a very, very safe alternative. I encourage everyone with these type of medications to drop by one of our locations on April 28th and let us collect this outdated drugs.”
