The Ocean County New Jersey Sheriff’s Office has received numerous calls recently from residents in various counties in Georgia. The calls received stated they had missed calls from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office phone number, 732-929-2044. When those receiving the missed call would return the call, they were directed to the real sheriff’s office number, though no one at the office had left the voicemail.
This scam is occurring in several states across the country (GA, UT, CA, NV, MT, FL, etc.), and it is believed that the scammers are running some sort of “grandparent” scam. If a similar matter is reported to you, please advise the callers that this is a scam.
