Virginia Sheriffs’ Association
The Voice of Virginia’s Sheriffs & Deputies
The Virginia Sheriffs’ Association is proud to announce its membership has passed the 10,000 member mark. Formed in 1933 in Salem, Virginia, comprised of sheriffs, deputies and administrative staff, the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association (VSA) enjoys high recognition by the Virginia General Assembly as the primary organization speaking for sheriffs and deputies. Working on many levels and in cooperation with the various segments of the criminal justice system and state government, VSA guarantees unfailing representation for sheriffs and deputies throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. VSA represents 97% of the 123 sheriff’s offices in Virginia with more than 10,295 sheriff, deputy and sheriff’s office staff members with law enforcement, jails, court services and civil process responsibilities. “VSA works diligently to represent our Virginia sheriffs and deputies on legislative, regulatory and budgetary issues, as well as to support them with premier professional development,” said John Jones, VSA Executive Director. Specifically, the VSA represents sheriffs and deputies on criminal justice issues, on a state level, before boards, commissions and the legislative bodies of Virginia. VSA staff also provides sheriffs, deputies and the public with information about emerging law enforcement issues, corrections, crime prevention and other topics as related to the sheriff’s office. VSA consistently requests Virginia’s Governor and General Assembly to increase salaries, enhance retirement and improve conditions for deputy sheriffs, dispatchers and staff. Learn more HERE about the work of the Virginia Sheriffs’ Association.
